The Right Moves
It’s moving day. You picked the truck from the moving truck rental company the day before and it’s now waiting outside, ready for loading. The volunteers you’ve called over are ready and raring to help you load the rented truck. Before you start, though, you have to get some things in order first. Surely, you agree that an operation as big as this one requires proper organization and careful preparation.

Loading…
The dolly is probably the single most important piece of equipment during the loading process itself. It will make the transport of your large items from house to the moving truck much easier than if you were to carry them yourself. Some moving truck rental providers provide the dolly as an added value service.
Get a ramp along with the dolly to make loading into the truck much easier. Strap big items down and bring the dolly up the truck ramp behind you in order to prevent accidents. If there are spare hands, get two people to stand behind the dolly and support it on its way up the truck.
An important thing to keep in mind while loading is safety. The probability of an accident is high because, typically, you and your volunteers would be dealing with large objects.

Order! Order!
It’s best if your first move is to arrange your items by size; put the larger and tougher ones in first and leave the smaller and more delicate items for loading last. This has something to do with how you’re going to place items into the loading area of the moving truck. Moreover, loading the larger items first is generally recommended because such items take up the most space. The smaller items, on the other hand, can get into the spaces between the larger items, so you can make the most of the available space.

It’s All in the Placement
There are a few simple steps that will help you maximize the available space in the moving truck. For example, put the big items – your refrigerator, your washing machine and all like sized appliances – at the end of the truck nearest the driver’s cab and away from the door. This will minimize the chances of an accident once the loading area doors are opened at the destination. Large and flat items should be placed against the inside walls of the truck. Gaps and spaces in between items should be filled up with smaller boxes or pillows and cushions to help pad the area. This reduces the probability of your items getting damaged in transit.
While moving day could be a stressful time, you could follow some of the tips above to make it as smooth as can be. Alternatively, you can ask your moving truck rental company to lend you their personnel so you’d have competent help when loading the truck.
